What Persecution Is. Part 3.

What Persecution Is. is a series about faith, gender, sexuality, race, culture and identity. Starting out the series is explored between Jake Dockter (at The Great White Whale) and Sarah and Lindsey (at A Queer Calling). If you would like to join the conversation, please do, but let us know about it so we converse with you! We want to join in dialogue.

Wikipedia defines persecution as, “The inflicting of suffering, harassment, isolation, imprisonment, fear, or pain are all factors that may establish persecution. Even so, not all suffering will necessarily establish persecution. The suffering experienced by the victim must be sufficiently severe.”

Christian organization, The Voice of the Martyrs comment that, “The Greek and Hebrew words often translated as ‘persecute’ typically carry a sense of serious violence, aggression and hostility or the threat of such. There is an intent to injure and is carried out in a hostile, antagonistic spirit.”

So does having your political stance questioned, or does being criticized for those beliefs count? Lets talk about it.

I’d love to know.
